Young Frankenstein Buffalo | Shea’s Performing Arts Centre
Spring isn’t exactly the season for horror but it could be if horror was combined with laughter and music to produce “Young Frankenstein”, the musical adaptation of the Mel Brooks classic 1974 film of the same title.
“Young Frankenstein” The Musical relives the story of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, played by Tony Award winner Roger Bart, who attempts to finish what his grandfather had started – resurrecting a dead body. The story spawned the famous line “It’s Alive!” after Frankenstein successfully resurrects the corpse but at the same time, igniting a series of intricate mishaps creating riot and hilarity which writer and composer Brooks thought was a good material for a comedy musical.
With acclaimed artist, writer and director Brooks at the helm of the musical duties, and Tony Award winner Thomas Meehan authoring the book from which the musical was based, the successful tandem who brought us “The Producers” has once again turned another successful cinema flick into theatre gold with critics calling “Young Frankenstein” a product of Brooks, Meehan and director and choreographer Susan Stroman’s “touch of genius” (Clive Barnes, New York Post) resulting to what Frank Scheck of the Hollywood Reporter calls as “a hilarious crowd-pleaser” that is both “riotous and showstopping”.
Catch “Young Frankenstein” when it makes its Buffalo rounds from March 22, 2011 to March 27, 2011 at the Shea’s Performing Arts Centre as part of its 2010-2011 season package.
